Enabling & Managing Gamification for Your Event
Gamification — points, challenges, rewards, and leaderboards — is opt-in per event and controlled by you, the organizer. This guide explains the two layers of gamification and how to configure your event.
Two layers of gamification
Planadar has two independent layers:
- Platform-wide gamification (managed by Planadar): login streaks, profile completion, the referral program, and global badges / achievements / leaderboard. These follow attendees across the whole platform and aren't tied to any single event — you don't configure these.
- Event gamification (managed by you): the points, challenges, rewards store, and leaderboard for your specific event. Everything below is under your control.
Turning event gamification on or off
There's a master switch for each event. When it's off, none of your event's actions award points, and the event's rewards store and leaderboard are hidden. When it's on, you choose exactly which actions earn points.
You can set this in two places:
- When creating the event — the creation flow includes a Gamification step (it's on by default with sensible settings).
- Any time after — open your event from the Organizer Panel and use the Gamification manager to flip the master switch and fine-tune the individual toggles below.
What you can turn on
With the master switch on, each of these can be enabled or disabled individually:
- Registration points — awarded when someone registers for your event.
- Check-in points — awarded when an attendee checks in on event day.
- Session attendance points — awarded for checking into sessions.
- Event rating points — awarded when an attendee rates your event.
- Sharing points — awarded when an attendee shares your event.
- Saving points — awarded when someone saves/bookmarks your event.
- Booth visit points — awarded for visiting exhibitor booths (expo events).
- Volunteer points — awarded for volunteer sign-ups/shifts.
- Event challenges — time-limited goals attendees can complete for bonus points.
- Rewards store — lets attendees redeem points for perks you offer.
- Event leaderboard — a live ranking of your most engaged attendees.
Turn on only what fits your event. For example, a free community event might reward check-ins and sharing, while a paid conference adds sessions, ratings, and a leaderboard.
How this affects the attendee help articles
Attendee-facing articles (Earning Points, Rewards Store, Challenges, Team Leaderboards) describe the standard behavior when the relevant gamification is enabled. Because you control your event's settings, the exact points and features an attendee sees will match what you've turned on.
Tips
- Enabling gamification is a great, low-effort way to boost check-ins, ratings, and social sharing.
- If you don't want any game mechanics, simply leave the master switch off — the rest of your event works exactly the same.
- Changes apply going forward; points already awarded aren't removed if you later disable a feature.
