Listed and Unlisted Events: Who Can Find Your Event

A published event is either listed or unlisted. This article explains what each one means, what unlisted does and does not do, and how your event's website follows the same setting.

Listed: the default

A listed event appears in Browse Events, in search and recommendations and in Planadar's sitemap, and search engines may index its page and its website.

Unlisted: only people with the link

Turn off Listed in public directory (Event Console, Event Info; the switch shows while the event is published) and the event becomes unlisted:

Unlisted is not private. It keeps an event out of the places people browse, nothing more. The link is the key, so a link that is forwarded, posted or guessed (the address contains the event's name) opens the event. Share the link only with the people you want to come. If only the people you invite should be able to open the event and register, turn on an access code instead: see "Private Events: Require an Access Code".

Two things to know when you switch an event to unlisted after it has been public: a search engine that already indexed the page keeps it until it next visits, and the event stays visible to anyone who already has the link.

Your event's website

The website follows the event's listing. When the event is unlisted, its website is not offered to search engines either, and it keeps working for everyone who has the address. You can also hide a single page of the site from search engines in the page's SEO settings.

Draft events

A draft event is not in Browse Events, search or recommendations, and registration is closed until you publish it. Publishing the event is the moment it opens.
