Turn Networking On or Off for an Event
Networking is on for every event by default. If you run a programme where attendees should not find or message each other, for example a school or youth event or a closed training day, you can switch it off for that event. Your other events are not affected, and the switch is on every plan, Free included.
How to Switch It Off
- Open your event in the Event Console
- Go to Setup → Registration Settings
- In the Networking card, turn Enable Networking off
It takes effect straight away. Turn it back on the same way at any time.
What Networking Covers
With networking on, attendees can:
- See AI-recommended connections for the event and send connection requests (Growth plan and above)
- See the attendee network on the event page
- Join the Networking Lounge (virtual and hybrid events)
- Use Discussions: start threads, reply and upvote
With networking off for the event:
- All four are hidden from attendees, and the event leaderboard no longer links a name to a profile page
- The server refuses them too, not just the page: the connection recommendations are not given out, and nobody can start a Discussions thread or reply
- Discussions already written are kept, not deleted, and they come back if you switch networking on again. While it is off nobody can post, and Planadar admins can still review reported posts
- A link to a networking tab opens the event Overview instead
What Stays the Same
- The schedule, sessions, speakers, documents, menu, FAQ and logistics
- Your announcements and emails, including to one attendee
- The Help Desk, so attendees can still write to you
- Polls and session Q&A, tickets, check-in and your reports
What It Does Not Do
The switch turns networking off for the event, not for the people. Two people who already use Planadar can still message each other from their own profiles, and connections they already have stay: that is not tied to any event. Names can also still appear in three places: the event leaderboard (if you use gamification), the chat and Q&A of live streams, and session Q&A. In the chats and question rooms people appear by first name and the initial of their last name (for example "Sarah C."), and by full name only when their profile is public. Turn those features off if names must not be shown, and switch off Allow attendees to hide their name on questions in the Questions card of Registration Settings if you do not want attendees to hide their name on a question.
Planadar is not a safeguarding policy. If you run an event with children, follow your organization's safeguarding rules; this switch removes the event's networking tools.
Good to Know
- When you duplicate an event or start one from a template, the setting is copied with it
- A new event always starts with networking on
- Only the event's organizer can change it
