Watching Live Streams & Participating

Get the most out of live sessions with our interactive streaming experience.

Joining a Live Stream

1. Go to the Virtual Lobby
2. Find sessions marked with "LIVE" badge
3. Click "Watch Stream" or "Join"
4. The video player opens automatically

Some streams are for registered attendees only: they show a lock and "Registered attendees". If you are not signed in you are asked to sign in; if you are signed in and have not registered for the event, you are asked to register, and the stream opens as soon as you are registered. The chat and Q&A of such a stream are for registered attendees too.

Participating in Chat

Sending Messages

1. Look for the Chat tab next to the video (it is not shown when the organizer has switched chat off for that stream)
2. Type your message in the input field (up to 500 characters)
3. Press Enter or click Send
4. Your message appears instantly

You need to be signed in to write. To keep the chat readable, one person can send up to 30 messages a minute to one stream; after that you are asked to wait a moment.

Deleting Your Message

• Point at your own message and click the bin to delete it
• It disappears for everyone straight away, and its words are removed: a deleted message cannot be restored
• Messages cannot be edited: delete it and send another

How Names Appear

• People appear by first name and the initial of their last name (for example "Sarah C."); a person whose profile is public appears by full name
• Nobody's email address or other profile details are shown in the chat

Chat Etiquette

• Stay on topic
• Be respectful to speakers and attendees
• Avoid spamming
• Tell the organizer about inappropriate content

Moderator Features

• The event's organizer can pin a message to the top of the chat for everyone, and unpin it again
• The organizer can delete any message; it disappears for everyone and its words are removed
• Only the organizer can pin messages or delete other people's messages

Using Q&A

Submitting Questions

1. Click the "Q&A" tab
2. Type your question (up to 1,000 characters)
3. Click "Submit"
4. Wait for speaker response

You need to be signed in to ask. You can delete your own question. If the organizer has switched Q&A off for a stream, the box says so and nothing is sent.

Hiding Your Name

• When the organizer allows it, tick Hide my name from the other attendees under the question box
• The other attendees see the question as "Anonymous". The organizer and their team can still see who asked, so do not use it for a question where being identified would put you at risk
• You cannot change this after you have asked: delete the question and ask again if you want to change it

Voting on Questions

• Upvote questions you want answered: one upvote per person, and you can click again to take it back
• You can't upvote your own question
• Top-voted questions are listed first
• Speakers often answer most popular first

Answered Questions

• Marked with "Answered" badge (only the event's organizer can mark a question answered)
• Filter to see answered/unanswered
• Review responses later

Troubleshooting

Stream Not Loading

• Check internet connection
• Refresh the page
• Try a different browser
• Clear browser cache

No Audio

• Check volume isn't muted
• Verify speaker/headphone connection
• Check browser audio permissions

Chat Not Working

• Ensure you're logged in
• Refresh the page
• Check if chat is enabled for stream

Can't Ask a Question

• Ensure you're logged in
• Check that Q&A is enabled for the stream (the organizer can switch it off)

Pro Tip: Join 5 minutes early to test everything works before the session starts!
